Tell us about your new Backseat EP and its title track

Backseat as a whole is a journey within. It was born out of a longing for some sort of order out of the vast vacuum covid nineteen created, especially amongst the artist community. The goal is for the listener to find a bit of themselves within the music and return from the journey equipped with the tools to build the reality they want to inhabit, not just live the one that has been handed to us. Backseat, the single, beckons the listener into an open contemplative state. It is a moment of passivity where you sit back and take in the wisdom and forces greater than us. It is a reminder that the human game is just a small blip in the ocean and there is wisdom beyond our learned humanity

Is there a lyric you would like to highlight?

“Order overtaking, nothing, no escaping, order…” These lyrics are a circle or a paradox, it illuminates the left and right brain, order is overtaking nothing, but there is no escaping the order. These two forces (nothing and order) are always dancing together in the universe…. and it is our job to balance them.

How did Mountain Head as a project first come together?

After a shamanic ceremony with a Mayan shaman in a Toronto dog park, the Hannah brothers drew a line in the sand, quit the band they were in, and started Mountain Head.

Describe your sound in three words.

Super Electric Rock n Roll

What inspired your Backseat EP?

From our home studio during lockdown, we dove into the unexplored terrain of the inner self, which gave rise to an EP derived from colorful late nights, and sunny stoner dreams. It is a project filled with bass-heavy, gritty, and ultra-hypnotizing tracks.

Who did you work with on the record?

The EP was co-produced with Darcy Yates (Bahamas, Flash Lightning, Jake Chisholm) the first three tracks were mixed by David Peyote, and the last three were mixed by Riley Bell (Daniel Caesar, Jessie Reyez, New West) Riley Bell mastered the whole album. We worked with beatmaker/producer and super rad skateboarder Datsunn for the majority of the drums on the project (everything but dedicated). Shawn Petrusich leads our creative push team.

What has been the biggest change in your lives over the past year?

The first single we released off of this EP was Let It Out which was our first Top 30 hit in Canada. The single remained on the charts as the only independent for 16 weeks. This ushered in quite a few changes, signing with Canada’s top booking agents, as well as an international booking agency. It was also instrumental in helping us fund the remainder of the project.

Where would you perform tomorrow if you could anywhere in the world?

The top of Mt. Everest, in video games, in a submarine, or Red Rocks

What is next for you?

We are prepping for shows in Toronto, LA, and all over Ontario, planning tours and promoting the EP as well as writing and recording.
