When did skateboarding change your life?
I remember going to London for my Grandmother’s funeral. We were sightseeing and, on our way, to get on the London eye, when I see what I know now is South Bank. The skating was so distracting; I wanted to stay and watch so badly, but we were on a schedule.
With skateboarding in the Olympics, do you think skateboarding can prostitute itself or to lose the true essence?
I don’t really know how I feel about that. I know some guys are good at contests and will be excited to perform for their country, but I have always preferred the street side of skating.
When was the first time you won a skateboard contest & how did you feel?
I never have won a contest
Skateboarding and music are very connected to each other, what do you like to listen to while skateboarding?
I only like to listen and skate when I am headed somewhere; it distracts me when I am really trying to skate. when I am doing that, however, I think the best thing to listen to is jazz.
Do you prefer to shred in the streets or in skateparks? Why?
Streets because it’s more of a challenge. Skateparks are designated practice grounds for when we go out to film.
Have you ever thought about giving up skateboarding? Why?
Yeah, a couple of times from injury and to focus on other sports. I swam collegiately for two years and had to stop a few times in the fifteen years I had been a swimmer.
What inspires you to shred and evolve every day? fame or just fun?
The rest of the world of skating inspires me, my art inspires me, and the process of learning new things on board to become better inspires me. I do it because I can’t imagine spending the time, I have skated on anything else.
What is your daily routine before you go shred?
Get water and a spliff and go
Any inspiring words you want to tell the next generation of skaters?
never stop. Skating is the most brutal and yet most rewarding relationship.- BS
