Exquisite is a fun summertime bop that is best summed up as “Calvin Harris/Kaytranada meets Logic/Mac Miller”. This song holds a special place in my heart because it was the first time that I had actually gotten into the studio with a producer to make a song. Previously, I’ve just purchased beats online but this was an entirely new experience as I watched Soké build the beat from scratch; adding the different elements, to create what we hear today. I had no idea what we were going to make when we got into the studio, but I had mentioned to Soké on a call prior to the session that I really love the “Kaytranada grooves”.
Is there a lyric you’d like to highlight?
“It’s exquisite / So trust the vibe and just dive in it / Cause tonight we’ll live it / Yeah living it up can’t give a f*ck bout the digits” This lyric captures the essence of the song which is about embodying what it means to be “exquisite”.
How did you first come together as an artist?
There are a few different versions of this story lol but the short version is that after a trip out west to Vancouver where I made the decision to give the music thing a go, I dropped out of university after 2 weeks and used part of the tuition to buy some equipment and started dedicating myself to making music.

What inspired “Exquisite”?
My love for dance music and desire to do something different from what I’d released in the past. In my everyday life, I consume quite a bit of electronic/dance music and I wanted to share this other side of my Gemini with my fans. There’s always been a duality about me musically where I grew up listening to Old-school Hip-Hop as a B-Boy but also love dance music so I decided to put them together!
Who did you work with on the track?
The super talented, Soké (Zacharie Raymond) who is ½ of the multi-platinum artist/producer duo, Banx & Ranx. This song was the 1st one that Soké and I made together and has really set the bar high for future collaborations.
What’s been the biggest change in your life over the past year?
I was able to quit my job as a delivery driver to pursue music full-time. This was always the goal but I had no idea it would happen last year! I try not to think about it too much and still have the same hunger from when I was working and doing music simultaneously so I can continue to push myself to be better.
Where would you perform tomorrow, if you could anywhere in the world?
This is a hard one but I would probably say Germany would be my top choice. I lived there for a year some years back and technically that’s where I first discovered my musical talents. Ottawa for Bluesfest – Main stage would be a close second as you can’t be a hometown show!
What’s next for you?
More music and touring! Having built my buzz during the pandemic, I’m ready to get out and play more shows to meet and connect with fans and people who have been supporting me for the last few years. I am also working on my debut project which is a 7-song hybrid EP. It’s going to be titled, “Duality: The Life of a Gemini” and will feature my signature 90’s/2000/s sound as well as songs like Exquisite.
