Mark Gonzales – Going to Love You

On February 24th, skater-painter-poet Mark Gonzales infiltrated Los Angeles yet again to unleash his unique style and creative characters in the shape of his new solo exhibition, “Going to Love You,” housed at the HVW8 Gallery.

Unable to keep his work contained to the interior walls, The Gonz hit the sidewalk to tackle the exterior of the gallery. Presenting a preview of what illuminates inside, guests and pedestrians speeding toward overpriced coffee are introduced to the representatives of this love-fest art show. Heart-headed figures play a silent tune as we see the iconic “schmoo” acting like a signature for all who pass.

And inside is no different.

Much like love itself, these different and colorful characters fill the rooms. In each work we see love in not just skating, but every day. Their hearts wave, they dance, they smoke, they drive, they fight. Regardless of the scene, love is the focal point.

Searchers can also find much more on display toward the back of the gallery where its shrunken self has been bound into an almost pocket-sized book, as well as t-shirts to mark the occasion.

Those who admire the founder of Krooked will feel right at home here, as if they found old friends meeting in a familiar place.

See “Going to Love You” from now until April 7th. Chuck Harp
