Brujaria Skateboard Interview’s

What got you into skateboarding?

When I was younger, I moved a lot and I needed something that was consistent. Skateboarding gave me something to hold onto when my surroundings were always changing.

You ride for Brujaria Skateboards, how did you get on?

My relationship with my previous board company came to an end. Norman reached out at a good time right before a video was coming out and I thought it would be perfect.

You guys have been working on a new video “Ouroboros”, How much time, blood & sweat you put into the making of “Ouroboros”?

At the beginning of filming I tore my pcl ligament in my knee. Luckily, I didn’t need surgery, just rehab and a month and half rest which was surprising for that type of injury. Straight back to filming against the doctor’s advice. I finished my section. One of the most painful things I had to do

You hyped to see your part, who’s part are you looking forward to seeing & Why?

I just want to see it all. Everyone worked hard for it, so it’s going to be fun to watch.

Do you feel skateboarding has changed your life? How?

Skateboarding has taken me around the world to places I never thought I’d see. It’s brought me a new perspective and taught me a lot about having persistence in life.

What got you into skateboarding?

My pops and his brothers skateboarded so there was always a board around me. I didn’t really get into it till I was about five. I guess I really liked how easy it was to just go out and do since there weren’t any rules or team that was better than the other; it’s something that was just mine.

You ride for Brujaria Skateboards, how did you get on?

I was supposed to skate street with a bunch of my friends around the USC area but sure enough, they all lagged on me that day. I ended up just checking out a couple of spots on my own then ran into Norman Woods at one of them. I had talked to him and ended up seshing the spot for a bit with him while he was filming a trick. He gave me an old board of his from the session and I set it up ASAP cause mine was trashed. I posted some clips with the board he gave me on Instagram and got a DM to skate with him, my good friend Willy and Lawrence. The rest is history.

You guys have been working on a new video “Ouroboros”, How much time, blood & sweat you put into the making of “Ouroboros”?

I had been stacking some footage but never really knew when the video was going to drop so I posted it on the gram before it got old and with my luck, the video had a deadline and it was only a couple months away so I was in a full panic to stack some clips for the guys. I was on a mission every day after work to go to a spot while the sun was still out, and get something good. I was on a roll with at least one good clip every day for about a week when I took a huge slam on a six-block in Culver city. The next week when I thought I was good to go again I got in a car crash on the way to a spot. The new school year came around and with my major, my priorities shifted from clips to credits.

You hyped to see your part, who’s part are you looking forward to seeing & Why?

I’m always hyped to see Norman’s footage. Even though I can’t drink yet I can relate Norman’s skating to good wine, It gets better with age. The dude posts a new trick every other day. Not only that but he’ll take it to the streets and do it at a spot only he can skate. He’s a mad man in the best way possible.

Do you feel skateboarding has changed your life? How?

Skateboarding isn’t for everyone. Most sports you can play and injuries are something that happens out of nowhere. When you skate, eating shit is how you learn. It might sound insane to people outside the community, but falling is part of the fun. Everyone hates rolled ankles, getting tossed by wheelbite, road burn, etc. It’s annoying but how many times have people gotten wobbles, and torn up on a hill and gotten up smiling and laughing. How many times have skaters slipped out or exploded their legs on a set and gotten right back up high-fiving their homies yelling fuck, yeah and right here I got this. Skateboarding separates the creatively insane from the average joe and I’m proud I made the cut.

What got you into skateboarding?

Seeing so many skaters around and being curious. Then, meeting another black kid who skated, even though he didn’t let anyone else at school know he was into it. Funny how times change.

You ride for Brujaria Skateboards, how did you get on?

I met Patrick (owner) at Garvanza, or South Pasadena skatepark. We ended up bonding over comics and assorted media, all things nerd really. When I left War Co, Patrick asked me to ride for Brujaria, and here we are two videos later.

You guys have been working on a new video “Ouroboros”, How much time, blood & sweat you put into the making of “Ouroboros”?

We started on the video last summer. I had some personnel changes and wanted to make a visual statement of who we are now. Lots of scrapes and bruises, a plethora of days spent driving around Southern California, hunting for spots and we got it done.

You hyped to see your part, who’s part are you looking forward to seeing & Why?

Romario and Ghost, the two new guys are really the focus if this one. I’m hyped to have gone on the journey with them.

Do you feel skateboarding has changed your life? How?

I can’t imagine what my life would be without skating. Most of the positive things in my life today are there because of skateboarding. All my longest and strongest friendships were forged while skating. I guess skateboarding is my life.

What got you into skateboarding?

When I was in third grade my teacher raffled off Christmas presents, and I got a board game. I wanted one of the skateboards, so I traded my board game for one. I had my board for a month or so but got it taken away. A few years later when I was in sixth grade, I met a group of skaters and asked if I can use one of their boards. After that moment I knew I wanted to continue skateboarding. So, I asked my mother for a skateboard for my birthday.
