Where are you /your band from?

Our band resides in Orlando, FL.  Though most of us are from a variety of places, Orlando has become our sweaty, humid home-base.

What type of music did you hear the most growing up?

We all definitely listened to many different genres, which (we think/hope) attributes to our unique sound.   Anything from punk to metal…Garth Brooks to Tupac…and everything in between haha.

What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?

The answer to that question might be a bit different for each of us.  Music has the power to bring people together and, for us, that direct connection between us and the audience is extremely important.  To be able to do that in itself, let alone make a career out of it, is a beautiful thing.

What sets you apart from other bands/artists today?

Well, being a rock band in the current music climate can be tricky, because there are so many facets and offshoots of it.  We don’t FULLY fall into the genres of hard rock, indie, alt rock, metal, etc.  Somehow, A Brilliant Lie has fallen into a category that rides the line between many sub-genres.  We take bits and pieces of those genres and weave them into songs (if that’s what feels “right” to do when we’re writing).  At the end of the day, we’re a VERY high-energy band that’s guitar-driven and has some killer melodies sewn throughout.  So, even though people might not always initially know how to classify us, we think it’s cool that we can hop in and out of genre pockets.  We get to reach more fans that way and play with a wide variety of great bands because of it.

For those who have never seen or heard your music before, how would you describe your music for the public audience?

Melodic with somewhat “heavy” (or sometimes aggressive)-toned music with catchy, yet thoughtful lyrics.

If you had to categorize your music, what genre would it best fit?

Rock, and then all those sub genres underneath that umbrella that we tend to delve into.

Are there any stories surrounding your songs that you’d care to share?

Musically, I’m sure there are plenty, people seem to gravitate towards the lyrics of songs and what they mean, or what the songs are about. All of our songs stem from a story or a feeling.  But we think it’s important to write them in a way that you can apply your OWN meaning to them.  That’s what art should be at the end of the day.   A lot of our songs are about life in general and the ups and downs of navigating through it.

Musically it’s all about what feels right to us, how it feels emotionally without lyrics. When we have musical compositions that speak without lyrics, we feel okay to start developing them more.

What do you do with your time away from music?

Write more music, work on all the business side of being in a band. Whether that’s working on new music, working with our teams, designing art, or having a pizza eating competition among one another. Ohh and we sleep for a couple hours.  We also enjoy really bad movies.

Any upcoming shows/tours/news?

We have show’s in the late spring and summer that will be announced soon. We have a single out on Spotify, Apple Music. and well everywhere digitally called “The Tarot” and we just dropped another single & video on February 21st called “Unwoven” – MB
