The Mangawhai Bowl Jam literally started 7 years ago when legendary Park builder Jason Parks built a world class bowl in the Beachside town on Mangawhai, 1 hour north of Auckland City. The place is unreal, pumping surf, rad laid back locals and the sickest location for a bowl. I though fuck it would be a shame to no get the homies together and have a jam session there. I think there was 20 of us on that first session.
7 years later it has fast become the largest skate event in the country. Run by skateboarders for skateboarders the whole ethos around the event is to create a platform to grow skateboarding here in New Zealand and to have a damn fun time while doing it.  Everyone is welcome, families, your parents and grandparents should be able to turn up and have a bloody good time.
The last 7 years we have seen everyone push themselves so hard to do better every year, This year in particular was unreal, the level of skating got turned up and we keep running out of room for spectators. Bloody good problems to have.
I’d love to see this event scratch the international radar of events you want to go to because it’s a tonne of people having the best time and all in the good name of skateboarding. I think we are heading that way so watch this space!
