The Skaters Edge (Taunton, Massachusetts) was fairly quiet at around 9:30. There were a few kids warming up while a steady stream of skaters in all different age groups were flowing through the door. Filmers were showing up, getting prepped for the coming hours of skating. Then the man himself appeared. Anthony Shetler. The mastermind behind this whole event, and the founder, and CEO of ALL I NEED. That’s when the event came to life. Tricks started getting gnarlier, and gnarlier. Day One consisted of the Ladies Jam, followed by 14 & Under, and lastly 15 & over. Day Two started the festivities at noon, with the skate shop qualifier, then the skate shop finals, then wrapped it up with best trick.
Winners (in order of first to third in each category):
Ladies: Jennifer Joseph, Brooke Dougan, Bombette Martin.
14 & Under: Cooper Qua, Devin Flynn, Asher Bradshaw.
15 & Over: Julien Gagnon, Evan Mansolillo, Tim Casey.
Shops: Charm City Skatepark (Baltimore, MD),
Hive Skateshop (New London, CT), Talent Skatepark and Shop
(South Burlington, VT).
Overall the New England Am was a very well organized, and put on tournament, that allows skaters of all ages to showcase their tricks in front of a crowd, and pros including Brandon Westgate, and of course, Anthony Shetler. The atmosphere was crazy at all times, and it was super sick watching everyone shredding their hardest. The 2017 New England Am was definitely a success, and if I were you, I wouldn’t miss next year’s competition. – DL
