Firstly, can you tell us about your new single? What was the inspiration? behind “All Fired Up”?
All Fired up in its original form was written by me during the Covid lockdown. I did it with some guys online in other countries. We were all stuck at home do All. Fired Up is about a night out.
How did you connect with Stevie Salas and what has he brought to the song?
I met Steve online a couple of years ago. We found out we had a mutual Neil Chapman from Zed Head and from there Stevie agreed to collaborate with me. He is an awesome producer and he helped me rewrite and rearrange the song and Fortunately, he played guitar on it as well.
Tell us more about your musical inspirations?
My mom. She was a piano player in church. She had me take lessons at 6. After that I grew up in the 79s and 80s listening to all that great music. I also live in a rural Appalachian community and Bluegrass is big here, lots a great picker.
You live in rural Virginia. How does this place affect the music you create?
Ha ! I’m ahead of yak. I just answered this one. Actually, the obscurity both helped and hindered my very first project and that album. We were not ‘out there’. There were/are no venues here so we didn’t get out much back then.. Because it was so rare and obscure that contributed to its collectability Same goes even now with the project with Stevie
If you wish you wrote one song already released by someone else, which one would that be?
I’ve been asked this before. I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas by Bing Crosby. It holds some kind of record for like the most sold

What is your favorite part about being a musician?
Probably the pat on the back. Getting paid is nice too but nothing like looking out and seeing people get into it or see them rocking out to your tunes.
What would be your dream tour gig?
Anybody big. I’m still starstruck. I would like to go to the big show one time though. Maybe a stadium gig. Stevie talks about that a lot. Support act for a major act. Somebody really big. Just one time you know?
What do you hope listeners take away from your music?
There’s a guy that loved what he was doing and was good at it. Everybody wants to be good at their craft. Also, from the lyrics and I guess just in general that here’s a guy that struggles walking the straight and narrow and has to rely on grace
What is the best way for fans to connect with you?
We have all kinds of social media. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and for the time being Tik Tok. Also, there’s matney.rocks
Finally, what’s next for Matney?
I’m going to Disney World so that’s a joke! We have another single Rebel Saint coming before the release of the album then The album drops April 26th. Lots pr stuff going on. I keep grouching about a tour. So, we’ll see – LV
