On May 24th, local elected officials and Tony Hawk’s The Skatepark Project will join community partners and local families to celebrate the historic new park in a neighborhood lacking opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Arches will foster community, boost local businesses, and open up access to safe outdoor recreation for the nearly 50,000 diverse local residents who live within a half-mile radius of the park.
This week’s launch will kick off the restoration of the iconic Brooklyn Banks skate spot, a beloved emblem of East Coast skating that has been closed to the public for more than a decade. The Skatepark Project and Gotham Park have been working in partnership with City Hall to return the skatepark to the community and build on its history as a gathering place for downtown New Yorkers. On May 24th, you’re invited to see the first phase of this historic vision come to life.
