On Saturday, November 4th 2023, I attended Exposure, a women’s skate contest.

After walking around and checking the event out, I set up my camera to photograph the Open/Pro Bowl contest. What an amazing group of talented women of all ages. The skaters ranged in age from 13yrs old to 24yrs old.

I love watching these women of all ages push the boundaries of what we think is possible and support eachother in the process. Sure, they are all competing against eachother, but they do so with love and respect. Nowhere else will you see competitors cheering eachother on and hugging eachother when someone lands an awesome trick. It is a beautiful thing to see.

As a mother of 2 girls, ages 12 & 14, I can only hope that my girls will grow up to treat others with the same amount of support and respect that these ladies exhibited at Exposure.

All of the skaters truly killed it and definitely showed us how incredibly talented they all are. There were a few moments that truly stood out, and they were Lilly Erickson landing a kickflip indie on the deep end of the bowl. The audience erupted into cheers watching such a beautifully executed trick with a clean landing. Lilly also did a beautiful stale fish in the deep end that helped solidify her first place win.

Bryce Wettstein kept us all fixated on her consistent, fun, and effortless style. Bryce’s fakie shove-it to disaster was nothing short of perfection. It is no secret that I am a big fan of Bryce. Her personality and outlook on life inspires those around her. It is always fun to see all the young future skater girls flock to Bryce, and to see them illuminated by the spirit and authenticity that is Bryce Wettstein.

Ruby Lilley also had a stand out moment with her back nose grind and pop in on the deep end. I’ve had the pleasure of watching Ruby grow up and develop as a skater over the past 3yrs, and this girl is incredible. She too has such a beautiful personality and her dedication to skateboarding is admirable. Ruby has quickly risen as a skater to watch, yet she still remains the humble good hearted young lady she was the day I met her 3yrs ago.

Every female skater that dropped in that bowl on Saturday was absolutely amazing and should be proud of themselves for showing the world how talented female skaters are. All the skaters at Exposure pushed the envelope for what others think female skaters can do.

I am honored to have witnessed such a motivating and uplifting event that truly embodied the meaning of sisterhood and unity. – MS
