Day 2 of Exposure did not disappoint. We had Vert and Street skating, with a range of levels, ages, and nationalities.
The day started with Vert and the girls killed it. There were girls as young as 9 fearlessly dropping in on the 14′ (approx) vert ramp.
All the girls were incredible and definitely showed the world that girls should never be overlooked when it comes to skateboarding.
A few moments that stood out were Bryce Wettstein executing some flawless Madonnas, Jordyn Barrett putting down some strong hand plants, Mihana Ogawa had some beautiful front smiths, and Juno Matsuoka displayed her method grabs. Honestly, there were too many notable moments to even list.
Next I checked out the Open/Pro Street. Admittedly, I did not get to stay the whole time, but I did get to watch the first heat of ladies throw down their runs. Most the runs focused on the stair set and the ladies were not intimidated in the slightest. Kylie Frank showed her skills and highlighted her talent over the stairs. She did board slides on the rail like her board was made of butter. I’ve had the pleasure of watching Kylie skate and evolve over the past few years and Kylie Frank is definitely a name to watch out for; she is going to do big things. Her tenacity and hard work shows through in her consistency on her board.
Paige Heyn had a flawless switch front-side board slide that made it obvious she was headed to the next round, and would become the winner. Ria Tanno, just 12yrs old, represented Japan, and expertly gave the judges a perfectly clean front-side lip slide down the rail, and a nice 50 down the hubba. Ricci Tres was the only skater to give us a switch Ollie over the stair set.
Overall the day was amazing and not one skater didn’t give their all on their board. Regardless of the results, every one of the ladies at Exposure should be proud of themselves and their performance. They truly showcased how far female skating has come and that women are a force to be reckoned with. – MS
