Behind the Brand: PUSHFOOT Skateboards

Tell us about how you got into skateboarding?

When I was little, I used to ride on my uncle’s banana board. Then when I got a little older, my other uncle bought a Nash Executioner for me.  That started it all for me, really.

How did you come up with the name Pushfoot?

The name Pushfoot started out between me and a couple of friends. We thought it’d be cool to go all together and start a board company. We decided on that name and then they all bailed and I kept going! I was NOT going to give up on the company.

Is it hard to build a team? What does it take to be part of your team?

Yeah, it is hard to build a team. I personally look for all-terrain type skaters. When you find the person you’re looking for, hopefully, they gel with the rest of the team.

With the industry being flooded with new pros that we never heard of from smaller brands. What’s your opinion on that?

I’m all for it. Hell, wish I could’ve had an opportunity like that back in the day. But I think it’s good for the locals to see their homie come up like that.

What makes Pushfoot different than other brands out there?

I have an old-schooler 90’s mentality, but I love this gen of skateboarding. The level of tricks and creativity is amazing. As a self-taught “artist” I like to bring some of the old ideas and art styles into my work.

Do you or do you have someone come up with the graphics or designs for Pushfoot?

I come up with the general design idea, work on it in adobe, then pass it off to our graphic designer, Perry. Who really brings it to life!

Do you think it’s hard being from TEXAS to get your brand out-there compared to some brand from Cali?

Definitely

Let’s say: I’m a shop owner, you come to my shop & you want me to carry your brand. How would you get me to carry Pushfoot in my store?

A lot of that is done by a couple of my dedicated team guys (Much love to them) But I’ve done the dirty work, too by bringing a sample of each graphic and shape to show them

What is Erik’s day like?

Deliver auto parts, come home to my kids, hang out with them… do graphic work, do video work, ship out the product, etc.

Thank you for talking with us & wish you the best of luck with Pushfoot. Is there anything you want to say to someone that wants to start their own brand?

Go for it learn from your mistakes, dedicate yourself and most of all have fun!
