What got you into skateboarding?

A kid in my neighborhood named Woody Woodall. Also, I got aboard for my 11th birthday

What was skateboarding like in Texas? Did you get hated on by rednecks?

Ehhh, not necessarily hated on. Just looked at as different. Skateboarding wasn’t nearly as popular as it is now so we were just looked at as outcasts.

Did you always wanted to be a pro skater or did you wanted to do something else with your life?

No, I have and will always skate for the pure love of it. I never started to be sponsored or pro. I just fucking love skateboarding.

You rode for Think for a long time, what made you break the ties with Think?

Think was awesome under Street Corner Distribution. Once it got changed to Strangebird distribution I felt like it was changing and I just didn’t fit anymore. There were a lot of different opinions. Either way, I’m stoked I got to be apart of such a legendary brand for so long.

Do you think ever since you left Think, your skateboarding has hit its highest?

I don’t feel that way. I just changed a lot of things in my personal life and started taking better care of my body, thus helping my level of skating. Don’t get me wrong, I owe a lot to Bill over at blind! He has helped me get where I am today. I just think it took me to want it for myself before I could get there.

How did you get on Blind? How does it feel to know that your part of a brand that has a lot of history?

I honestly just called Bill Weiss one day and told him how stoked I was on the brand and team. We talked about it for a bit and it just happened. It’s crazy to think that I ride for such a legendary brand. I am super thankful.

Last year, was your first time with Street League. How was it? Are there any changes you would like to see with Street League?

It was pretty cool. Stressful. Haha.
I like the way the contest is set up honestly. The only thing I’d change is that I wish that the parks could be built permanently. That way kids could enjoy them as well. I know that’s probably not possible given how much of a production it is to put the contest on. I just wish everyone could get to skate the parks ya know.

Do you think to be part of Street League, has it help promote you and build a fan base? Why?

I guess it has a little because of it being such a large contest that is broadcasted on television. It’s crazy to have my parents and friends back home watch me on TV. I definitely would have never of thought I’d be here growing up skating in my driveway.

Tell us one of your craziest skateboard adventures:

Shit, there are too many to even begin. Haha. Every time I step on my board it’s an adventure.

Anything you want to tell say to the next upcoming skateboarder?

I’ve said it over and over again,
Skateboarding is meant to be fun. That’s it! We will always get frustrated at times with it, that’s what happens when you love something that much. However, it’s not about making money or being better than others. It’s about the pure happiness that it brings you. Whether that is jumping the biggest stairs you can find or simply roll down a hill. Not everyone gets the opportunity to experience the freedom of skateboarding.  Cherish it! – KH
